It appears that Sony is again facing a massive recall of laptop batteries based on the possibility of fire hazard. The batteries are being used in laptop computers from HP and Toshiba. The total number of batteries covered in the recall is 100,000.

HP has about 74,000 laptops that are affected and 14,400 laptops from Toshiba are affected. Small numbers of systems from Dell, Acer, and Lenovo are also in the recall.

Sony reports that the batteries left the production line between October 2004 and June 2005. About 35,000 of the batteries are recalled in the US with 65,000 of the recalled units in other parts of the world. Sony has also recalled 438,000 batteries from its own Vaio notebooks in the last few months.
