The T-Mobile G1 got jailbroken last week and developers can get root access to the Android file system rather easily. Google acted and already released now an OTA update for the T-Mobile G1 to fix this hole.
Android OS RC30 Update is now the latest OS version for G1 users.
I am not sure if this update is influencing the G1 unlocking that we reported on at the end of October.
