BBC has had great success with its iPlayer allowing Internet users to stream programs from its network for online viewing. Competitor Sky is now looking to do something similar for its programs.

To attract new subscribers to its premium subscription service Sky will introduce a Sky Player. Users won’t need to be Sky satellite subscribers to use the Sky Player, but the player will carry a subscription fee for these users.

Another potential issue aside from subscription fees is that using the Sky Player will drive up the bandwidth that Internet users consume, which with some ISPs could lead to overage charges.
