ARM announced recently that it intends to bring versions of its ARM CPUs to the netbook market. The move into the netbook market will also allow ARM to bring the Ubuntu Linux flavor to the netbook realm.

The new ARM Ubuntu OS is set to be available in April 2009. ARM expects the first systems running Ubuntu to tip up around June at Computex. Processors will be based around the ARM7, Cortex A8, and A9 processors.

In a statement Jane Silber, of Canonical, Ubuntu's commercial sponsor, said: "This is a natural development for Ubuntu, driven by the demand from manufacturers for an ARM technology-based version."
