A coder has managed to add bare multi-touch functionality to the G1 smartphone running Google's Android OS. The coder is named Ryan Gardner and he developed a finger painting application that allows two-touch controls at one time.

It seems that multi-touch is a software issue to the G1, not something related to the hardware. HTC has also announced that it expects to sell more of the G1 smartphones that it previously thought.

HTC says that it will sell one million units by the end of the year. Its original estimate was 400,000 handsets. That is a 66% increase and would mean HTC needs to ship 117,000 G1's per week.
