Steve Jobs is as integral to the success and notoriety of Apple as the Mac computer systems the company builds. Jobs told fans of Apple in early January that he was suffering from a hormone imbalance that was robbing his body of proteins.

Today Jobs announced that he was stepping down from his post as CEO of Apple. Jobs said that he medical issues were more difficult than he thought they would be and that Apple number 2 Tim Cook would run the show until Jobs could return.

Exactly what Jobs' leaving Apple means is not yet known, the CEO is so much associated with his company that many analysts wonder if Apple will be the same without Jobs at the helm. Jobs isn't saying the leave is permanent; perhaps he will be back when his health is better.
