Consumers short on cash, but still wanting broadband and phone service will like what Carphone Warehouse has to offer. The retail chain is offering up a plan that will give users broadband and phone service on a fixed line called TalkTalk essentials.

The deal is available until March 2nd with an 18-month contract and lets new customers get free broadband and landline calls for 12 months. All the customer needs to pay is the line rental at £10.50 per month for 12 months, then prices rise to £16.99 per month. Hey, wait a minute… that's not free after all.

Customers will get broadband at up to 8 Mbps with a paltry 40Gb download limit and a free wireless router with unlimited evening and weekend calls until 2010. In reality, the plan is a £6.49 discount over the normal service, which doesn't sound as good as free phone and broadband in ads.
