Sky has announced that the purchase price for its Sky+ HD box is being reduced significantly. The price will immediately go to £49 from the original £150. The move is an attempt to get more households to adapt its HD service.

According to Sky, sales of its HD box and the equivalent SD box are skyrocketing over the recent months and over the last part of 2008, subscribers totaled 188,000. To meet demand for its service a thousand new jobs are being created.

The jobs will be in the installer and customer service venues. Sky reported increased total revenue in its last earnings reports totaling £2,601 million for the second half of its fiscal year.
