Philips has unveiled a wide screen TV that is, well, really wide. The set is called the Cinema 21:9 and is a 56-inch screen beast with an aspect ratio 0f 21:9. Normal sets have either 4:3 or more commonly 16:9 aspect ratios.

The new aspect ratio allows movies to be viewed in 2.39:1 format to display totally on the screen with no black bars. This is the ratio we see at movie theaters. The beast will feature five HDMI ports and Internet connectivity.

Exactly how much the TV will cost is unknown, but it will be far from cheap. The set is supposed to launch this spring with more models coming. We will likely see both smaller and larger screen sizes before things are done.
