LG unveiled the new LG Arena LG-KM900 as the first touchscreen phone that features LG's new S Class UI, which uses full 3D navigation elements.
When vendors like Samsung call their User Interface 3D they mean some 3D effects and layers that can be found in most smartphone User interfaces today. LG is going a step further with their S Class UI found on the new LG Arena LG-KM900. The main navigation on the Arena is a 3D cube that has application icons on its sides.
LG touts that the new full 3D S Class UI is easy to learn, fast to use and very intuitive. Whether or not this is true can only be confirmed with a hands-on test. Full 3D User interfaces are sexy, but are usually not as easy to use as our 2D input devices (e.g. Mouse, trackpad, etc.).
Another question is why LG calls the new User interface S Class UI? Are they paying tribute to the S Class Mercedes?
Anyway the LG KM-900 Arena phone with the S Class UI will be shown at the MWC 2009 next week. I am mildly excited.
