According to a recent report, 20% of notebook buyers in Europe in Q4 2008 purchased a netbook. Shipments of netbooks accounted for 20% of all mobile computers shipped for the quarter. The statistics come from IDC and are for all of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Europe accounts for the vast majority of the machines sold though. In 2008, shipments for the entire EMEA area came to almost 7 million units meaning half the years netbook shipments can during the Christmas season.

Acer was the top computer brand for the quarter with a 30.3% share of the shipments for the quarter. Asus took a close second place with 28% of the machines shipped with HP, Samsung, and Dell following behind.
