Philips Announces 2009 HDTV Line

Philips has announced its line of HDTVs for 2009. The company has announced a new high-end line called the 9700-series that includes sets with 40, 46, and 52-inch screens with 5,000,000:1 contrast ratios and extra rows of LED backlights for brightness.

The 9600-series includes 42 and 47-inch screens with 200Hz refresh rates and 80,000:1 contrast ratio along with five HDMI ports, which are very welcome. The series will also have 37 and 32-inch versions with 100Hz refresh rates.

The 7000-series offers 32 to 52-inch screens with 80,000:1 contrast and more. The low-end series is the 5000 with 32 to 52-inch screens, 720p resolution, and 50Hz refresh rates. Pricing is not known at this time nor is an exact launch date for any of the new sets.
