O2 is reporting that it has now sold a million iPhones in the UK. Its success in the smartphone market has helped it record a 10% increase in revenues during the last quarter of 2008. Other high-end smartphones sold well for the provider including the Blackberry.

Even with the poor global economy, smartphone sales continue to do well. This is the main reason that many computer makers like Acer and HP are looking to get into the smartphone market.

O2's iPhone sales helped it grab 390,000 new users in the last quarter of 2008 giving it 19.5 million total users on its network. O2 says that it expects the growth in the smartphone market to continue throughout 2009 even as the global economy weakens further.
