YouTube has announced that it will begin blocking music videos from being viewed by viewers in the UK after negotiations with the Performing Rights Society. YouTube reports that the PRS was demanding many times more in licensing fees than YouTube was paying previously.

According to YouTube, the new costs were prohibitive and it simply decided to block the music videos. I don’t get this sort of thing. Musicians want people to watch the videos, like the music and go buy the track or album.

I never understand why a music association would not want to put their music in front of the largest video watching audience online. It seems like people get more and more greedy every day. A PRS spokesman says it was "outraged…..shocked and disappointed" at YouTube's decision.
