According to Nielsen social networks like Facebook and MySpace are now more popular than email according to recent research. A recent report from the company showed that 66.8% of Internet users worldwide use social networking sites while 65.1% used email.

As a way to keep in touch social networking is more popular than email, possibly because you can let multiple people know what you are doing via a social network rather than having to send out individual emails.

Facebook is now the most popular global social network with 29% of Internet users going to the site followed by MySpace with 22.4% of all users going to the site. Facebook reportedly grew 566% in time spent on the site worldwide by users.
