Rugged Touchscreen Laptop Debuts From GD Itronix

A company called GD Itronix has announced a new rugged notebook called the GD8000 with a price that starts at $3800. The screen can be 12.1-inches or 13.3-inches and the system weighs right at 8 pounds. The 13.3-inch screen version meets multiple military specifications for ruggedness and can survive drops up to 42-inches.

The display offers resistive touch capability and features DynaVue technology for readability in sunlight and outdoors. Other features for ruggedness include being able to stand up to water blown at up to 40 mph for up to four hours and helicopter grade vibration. The machine is dustproof thanks to internally sealed ports.

The laptop can be optioned with up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM and uses a 1.86GHz CPU along with a 9-cell battery good for up to ten hours. Storage is up to 120GB and integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Gobi 2000 are offered.
