Apple previewed and published the beta of the iPhone 3.0 OS yesterday. Market analysts like what Apple has been showing and say things like "the iPhone 3.0 OS expands the yawning competitive expanse between Apple's mobile platform and the knock-offs of would-be rivals." or "It's the software, stupid.".
The overall message is that the Apple advantage lies in the iPhone software and the eco system around it. Smartphone makers who just try to compete on hardware alone will fail.
Microsoft knows that but needs to catch up and is still far behind. Palm knows that and starts with a brand new OS on the Palm Pre. BlackBerry is in the process of launching its App store to stay in the game. Apple is running away very fast as their App store and developer network is exploding.
Apple Insider has compiled analysts comments on the new iPhone 3.0 OS.
