When it comes to being able to carry your data around with you on the go, and I mean literally on you like in your pocket, you need a small flash drive. Flash drives over the last few years have grown significantly in capacity making them a much more viable option for storing large amounts of data and many new flash drives offer encryption to secure your data in the event the drive is lost or stolen. If you are in the market for a new flash drive today, we are going to check out five great flash drives that you can choose from.

OCZ Throttle

The first flash drive, and possibly one of the fastest you will find is the OCZ Throttle. The Throttle has both USB and eSATA connectivity with eSATA providing much faster data transfer speeds assuming your computer has an eSATA port. For those times when the computer you need to put data on or take data off of lacks an eSATA port the Throttle has a female mini USB port on one end. That does mean you will need to keep the USB cable with you or you risk not being able to get data on or off computers lacking eSATA. The OCZ Throttle is available in capacities up to 32GB for storing many files.

SanDisk Cruzer 4GB Flash Drive

The best feature of the SanDisk Cruzer line of flash drives is that the drives offer a retractable USB port that tucks away inside the flash drive casing for an added measure of protection. More than one person has broken the USB plug off their flash drive over the years and with the retractable design, that is no longer an issue. SanDisk makes the Cruzer line in a variety of different styles and storage capacities. 4GB is a nice tradeoff between storage capacity and a low price today with the 4GB version as cheap as $12.

The drive is also U3 compatible offering applications that you can run right from the drive and it's ReadyBoost capable as well.

The flash drive comes with a tubular case sealed with an o-ring to prevent water from getting inside and damaging your data. The drive can survive trips through the washer and dryer as well as rain and spilled coffee as long as it is tightly secured inside its metal tube. The drive is available in up to 32GB capacities and is one of the toughest flash drives you can get, though it is very bulky compared to other drives available.

IronKey 4GBSecure Flash Drive

IronKey flash drives are far from the cheapest flash drives you can get your hands on with a 4GB model selling for around $130. However, the IronKey drives are among the most secure drives you can get your hands on. The biggest feature of the line is that they include a hardware encryption engine that encrypts all data stored to the drive with military spec encryption algorithms. The drives are also tamper resistant and ruggedized thanks to the metal case being filled with a hard resin that prevents access to the memory even is the case is removed from the drive.
