Faster Bluetooth capable of streaming HD video and with transfer rates of 24Mbps could hit our shelves within a year according to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

It is the groups role to set industry standards and award brands and they have given their seal of approval to the latest improvements.Bluetooth 3.0 will get its speed from the 802.11 radio protocol, this provides approx speeds of 24Mbps. Mobile devices will also see the benefit of increased power savings due to the enhanced power control built in.

This newest version of bluetooth builds on the qualities of the current version, 2.1 EDR and will also be backwards compatible enabling both expansion and enhancement of the technology as it progresses forward.

Users can expect to be able to do things such as transfer bulk music libraries at once between devices and send large video files from your camera or phone to your computer. These task's under present standards are not possible and to transfer a music library track by track would take ages.
