Microsoft today announced their third-quarter revenue results, and while total revenues dropped 6 percent year-over-year, Xbox 360 sales provided a silver lining.

Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox, was $31 million in the red for the quarter, but Xbox 360 sales totaled 1.7 million units, up almost 30 percent from a year ago. Also, the average number of games and accessories per owner jumped 7.5 and 3.6 respectively in 2008, to a current number of 8.3 and 3.9.

According to Gamespot, Microsoft Chief Accounting Officer Frank Brod touted the Xbox’s business success in a conference call to discuss the earning. Brod claimed that since July 2008, Microsoft had sold 10 million Xbox 360s worldwide, 15 percent more than the entire previous fiscal year.
