Atari's newest game was released for digital download today. Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate is an expansion pack to NWN2, and features new music, items, and story lines equaling about 15 hours of additional play. The expansion pack is available online for $9.99.

Mysteries of Westgate comes from Ossian Studios, the same people who developed Darkness over Daggerford, a well-received expansion to the first Neverwinter Nights. This news should bring some excitement to the NWN modder community, who will get several new tile sets and character models to play around with in their next generation of mods.

The Neverwinter Nights series is almost as old as computer gaming itself, and the first NWN games were among the first RPGs to attain widespread popularity. In total the franchise has sold some three million copies and lead to the creation of thousands of mods.

Mysteries of Westgate will require the user to have a copy of NWN2 installed. There is still no word on when we can look forward to Neverwinter Nights 3, but at least this expansion is a sign that the series still has legs.
