Reports are coming in that Apple is in advanced talks to purchase the social networking/microblogging site Twitter for an estimated $700 million. The alleged offer amount on the table for Twitter is interesting; Apple reportedly offered $500 million for Facebook, which was turned down.

It seems that Apple thinks Twitter is more valuable than Facebook. Sources claim that Twitter and Apple are in serious negotiations and the deal is expected to be revealed at WWDC in June.

Twitter has more than 25 million users, is growing by about 40% per week, and is certainly the social networking flavor of the day. I hope that the Twitter deal will be announced alongside a new iPhone.
