Topcon Unveils GRS-1 Mobile GIS Mapping Device

Topcon Positioning Systems has unveiled a new mobile mapping device called the GRS-1. The device is a handheld modular mapping system with high accuracy. The GRS-1 has a high-performance internal processor, increased memory, a built-in compass, integrated digital camera, and a cellular modem inside.

Optional GSM or CDMA modems can be used inside the device to dial up a reference station for real-time correction data. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also integrated into the device. Memory expansion is offered via SD cards.

An external antenna can be added for increased accuracy and the device runs Windows Mobile. When a single frequency PG-A5 antenna is added the device has sub-foot accuracy.
