According to a report by Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster there will be no announcement of the new iphone at this years WWDC. Instead Steve Jobs will make his comeback and announce the new iphone in late June.

Apple recently said that Phil Schiller would lead this years WWDC keynote speech and Munster believes it will focus on iphone 3.0 firmware and Mac OSX Snow Leopard. It is believed that the second event hosted by Steve will be full of new surprises. There could be a range of new iphones released, ranging from a high end model with improved specs, to a low end budget model on a reduced price plan. Whilst this seems like just another rumour to me it does fit in with the whole 'god' like image Steve Jobs seems to have when it comes to Apple. So a big razzle dazzle come back is a possibility, maybe also the fabled Mac netbook??.
