Orange says that mobile data usage on its network has doubled over the last 12 months. This feat is attributed to the greater adoption of mobile broadband dongles and smartphones. Orange UK customers have 3.824 million 3G dongles in use around the country as of the end of March.

The big draws for mobile data use are videos, music, games, and social networking. Orange says that 380,988 music tracks are downloaded from the Orange Music Store each month. That number is a 38% increase over the previous quarter.

Overall dongle subscriptions have surged over 504% over the year across the industry. The top searches were for Cheryl Cole, Jade Goody, and Mylie Cyrus.
