Channel 4 has become the first network to offers its entire back catalog online for free. Starting in July the network will offer over 4,000 hours of content including episodes of Queer As Folk, Shameless, Ali G, and The Camomile Lawn.

The service currently offers episodes for 30 days before deleting them from the library. The BBC offers 7 days of playback via its iPlayer. Some of the programs from Channel 4 won’t be offered for legal reasons.

Communications minister, Lord Carter, who is heading a report into the UK's digital future, said earlier this year that the country was on course for a 'different world' away from scheduled programming. He said: 'In less than ten years, we will be in a complete "on demand" television world.'
