Today was the special HTC launch event in London where the company announced its new Hero smartphone. The device will feature a 5MP camera, GPS, and a digital compass. Other features include a 3.2-inch touchscreen, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an accelerometer.

Internal storage offers 512MB of space with expansion to 16GB using microSD cards. The screen is smudge repellent, important in a touch device. The Hero runs the Android operating system.

Orange will be the official HTC launch partner and will offer the device free on select plans including the £39.15 per month, two-year contract. The plan offers unlimited text, data, and 1,200 voice minutes.
