EA and Dice have announced that the next Battlefield installment is coming on July 9th. The game is called battlefield 1943 and will be available a day early on Xbox Live and then hit the PlayStation Network on the 9th. The game is download only and will cost $15 or 1200 MS Points.

The game puts players in FPS shooter mode and offers battle on the sea and in the skies. The game plays across tropical maps Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and the Coral Sea. The maps have been redesigned using the new destructible Frostbite engine from Dice.

The Coral Sea map will have to be unlocked as part of a worldwide community challenge where players have to reach 43 million kills on the Xbox Live and Playstation Network. The game is 560MB of download only fun.
