O2 and Twitter have just agreed to a deal that will allow O2 users to get free message alerts from the Twitter sire when they receive direct messages or @ replies to Tweets. The messages are displayed in SMs form and can be replied to without logging into Twitter.

The service will start to debut in August and each Tweet you reply to will count as a standard text message rate. Heavy Twitter users need unlimited messaging. The service can be turned on and off at anytime and it can be set as inactive when you are at a computer.

I'm still not a Twitter user, but there are lots of mobile users out there who are heavily into Twitter. The app will limit users to 600 text Tweets per month. I wonder how long that will last for most users.
