Netbook Sales Booming As Notebooks Decline

DisplaySearch has issued its most recent report on the state of the netbook and notebook industry. According to the company, about 33 million netbooks are expected to ship in 2009. The category is expected to grow to 20% of the notebook segment globally.

As the netbook category grows, the notebook segment is expected to have flat growth year over year for the first time ever. Penetration of netbook sin Latin America is expected to be 26% with penetration in EMEA at 22%.

Penetration rates will be the lowest in Asia-Pacific, North America, and China. In 2008, a full 45% of all netbooks shipped went to the EMEA area. The study also points out that larger screen netbooks at 10.1 to 12-inches are becoming the most popular options.
