Apple announced today that the Apple iPhone App store already served 1.5 billion downloads. On Saturday the Apple App Store just celebrated its 1st anniversary. The App Store just hit the 1 billion mark in April. So in less than 3 month Apple served another 500 million downloads.

"The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality," said Steve Jobs, Appleā€™s CEO. "With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up."
Steve Jobs is probably right there. The only other App store that will be able to catch Apple is from Microsoft, but they did not launch yet. Everybody is launching App stores these days that will be just little niche shops nobody develops for unless they get paid in advance.

The App Store is also growing in size with more than 65,000 apps and more than 100,000 developers in the iPhone Developer Program.
