I just mentioned the shipment numbers for the global PC market offered by Gartner. IDC turned in its numbers for the market today as well. IDC says that the PC market has outperformed predictions for a second consecutive quarter, but the lack of commercial activity remains.

IDC lists the top five global PC vendors in the same order with HP shipping 13.095 million units, Dell shipping 9.108 million, Acer shipping 8.431 million, Lenovo shipping 5.57 million, and Toshiba shipping 3.49 million. The biggest difference in the numbers offered by the two firms is for Acer, IDC has the company shipping about a million units less than Gartner, a significant difference.

In the US the numbers are pretty much dead on with Gartner. IDC says Dell was tops with 4.17 million shipped, HP shipped 4.13 million, Acer 2 million, Toshiba 1.22 million, and Apple 1.21 million. The big difference in US shipments is that Gartner had Apple as number four and Toshiba as number five.
