Microsoft executive Shane Kim has said in a recent interview with a gaming website called Kikizo that there was no doubt that Microsoft was looking into a portable game console. The Nintendo DS and Sony PSP do very well in the market.

Kim said it’s a matter of when the company will offer the portable platform and has hinted that the platform would do more than play games. The console would allow users to access social networking and internet services.

The description sounds a lot like the iPhone and the Microsoft portable gaming platform may turn out to be a mobile phone with Xbox branding. Kim gave no timetable information.
