O2, the exclusive provider for the iPhone, had an unidentified network fault yesterday that brought portions of its network down. The mobile carrier confirmed on Twitter that it was having issues with pay monthly Internet access and the problem would affect MMS as well.

The voice service for the network was unaffected as long as users weren't relying on VOIP. Pay as you Go customers were able to continue operating normally as well.

The operator says that is it working to fix the problem ASAP but as of today some customers are still saying the service is out. O2 users looking to take advantage of their iPhone today may still be out of luck.
