The Nintendo DSi is supposed to get an upgrade. According to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Shimbun Nintendo will still release a DSi console with a larger screen in 2009.
The article that Nikkei published online does not contain the information that the new DSi screen would be 4-inches as the print edition supposedly did. According to Joystiq's coverage, the price point of the new DSi would stay the same.
The screen size increase is supposed to cater to older gamers.
A larger screen size will not help Nintendo in fighting off the growing install base of the Apple iPod touch. Nintendo needs to show Apple that Mario still knows best what gamers want. Update: Nintendo DSi LL unveiled.
