According to a report in today's edition of International Business Times, via AppleInsider, Chinese carrier China Unicom already bought 5 million iPhones from Apple. China Unicom is said to be launching the iPhone in China in September.

At the end of July China Unicom still said that the deal with Apple is not finalized.
If these rumored numbers are true than Apple just got a check over $1.46 billion for 5 million WCDMA standard iPhones.

There is still no official statement on the Apple China iPhone deal. It is also rather unlikely that Apple will reveal the specific deal they negotiated with China Unicom.
