Micron has announced a new SSD that claims to be the fastest SSD available for notebook and desktop computers. The new SSD is called the RealSSD C300 and it is available in 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch formats in capacities of 128GB and 256GB.

The thing that makes these SSDs so much faster is that they use the SATA 6Gbps interface rather than the 3Gbps most SSDs take advantage of. When connected to systems via that interface the data transfer speeds are much faster than the typical SSD.

The C300 SSDs have a read speed of 355MB/s and a write speed of 215MB/s. Micron says that the C300 SSD scored 45,000 on the PC Mark Vantage HDD suite. The drives are sampling now and will enter full production in Q1 2010.
