Seeing Avatar three times in the theater has given me an unquenchable hunger for more 3D awesomeness. Luckily, DirecTV has my back. HD Guru reports that DirecTV will be launching their first US 3D HDTV channel early in 2010. The announcement will be made at the CES 2010 show on January 7th, and the new channel is expected to go live in March of 2010. This 3D channel will feature a variety of shows, everything from movies to TV shows and sports games. All of these channels will meet the 3D standards of the major TV manufacturers. You won't need a new HDTV box to watch these 3D shows, DirecTV is handling that via firmware update, but you will need a new 3D HDTV. And, what luck, CES 2010 is going to be a veritable showcase of 3D HDTVs. Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, and LG will all be showing off new, 3D capable machines. Start saving those Christmas dollars now; that way you'll be able to afford a new TV come March.
