When it comes to home theater gear, many enthusiasts will spend lots of money to get the best TV and the best sound system. Often they never think about calibrating the colors of the TV to get the best image quality.

Datacolor has announced a new HDTV calibration tool called the Spyder3HDMI. The device connects to your TV using HDMI. The HDMI connectivity eliminates the need for a PC. The software needed for the calibration process is embedded directly into the TV for calibration.

The software walks the user through a step-by-step calibration process that maximizes the colors for the specific environment the TV is in. Exactly when the device will ship and how much it will cost is unknown.
