The Apple App Store is boring, but there is no one who can say that it is not a hugely profitable and popular business for Apple with the 3 billion downloads so far. Despite the booming success of the App Store analysis from Mplayit shows that the iPhone may be losing its edge in the app realm.

The Facebook mobile app store Mplayit has announced that the number of apps the App Store has may no longer be translating into an advantage in the marketplace. An analysis of the top apps across the major platforms has found that most of the top apps are the same regardless of the smartphone platform.

In the end the analysis boils down to no matter what platform the user is on for their smartphone, there is less and less to choose from. Users only need a few good apps recons the firm and the other billions of apps are of no use to most of us. I guess that makes a bit of sense, most of us would take a few good apps over billions of junk apps.
