Sure, my HP is portable and thin and has great battery life, but I highly doubt I could use it to club a mugger into unconsciousness. Not without breaking it. That, as I understand it, is the benefit of products like the GammaTech Durabook. People who are rough on their gadgets need them to be extra tough. Unfortunately, most manufacturers confuse "rugged" with "utterly lacking in features".

But GammaTech doesn't. Their latest Durabook is being billed as the first ultra-tough notebook with a full terabyte of hard disk space. This machine has one gigantic shock-mounted 1 TB drive in E-O configuration. There are three E-Series models for users to choose from. The E-1 adds real-time data backup and synchronization, while the E2 offers 2 separate 500 GB HDDs.

All machines in the D14 E-Series have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor that clocks in at above 2 GHz. Users will also have the option of purchasing a 7,200-rpm disk drive. The entire E-Series meets military 810F specifications for protection against drop, dust, and spill. It has an insulated keyboard and system switches. For more info, visit GammaTech's website.
