This time last year, Motorola had no share in the smartphone market worth speaking of. Since the launch of the Droid, though, things have been looking up for Moto. A report from AdMob (via Phandroid) shows that in December, shortly after its launch, the Droid was already responsible for 11.3% of ad requests. That makes it the second most popular smartphone, after the iPhone.

Number six in popularity was also a Motorola handset, the Cliq. It managed to pull in 3.4% of ad requests. The iPhone is still high on top with 48.5% of ad requests and 36% of the total worldwide manufacturer share. Overall, Motorola holds 6% of the total manufacturer share, tying for fifth place with HTC.
