Electric and hybrid vehicles are a big deal to the U.S. government and many consumers. The more electric vehicles we can get on the road the more we can reduce pollution and the need for foreign oil. The problem from an automotive enthusiast standpoint is that most electric cars are flat boring.

Tesla Motors was the first electric car company to make an electric sports car that was actually appealing to many auto enthusiasts. The big catch with the Tesla Roadster is that the car is very expensive putting it well out of the reach of the average American.

Tesla has announced that it has filed a registration statement from S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed IPO offering of common stock. The number of shares to be offered and the price range is not determined at this time. Tesla is one of the more influential electric vehicle makers in the country so this will be a big deal.
