The future of automobiles is looking more and more green as time goes by and technology improves. There is a huge amount of research being put in on electric and hybrid vehicles and fully electric cars have come a long way in the last few years.

GE and Juice Technologies have announced that they are teaming up to develop an electric vehicle-charging device. How fast an electric vehicle can charge directly affects the performance and viability of the vehicle in the real world. An EV that can recharge in a few hours as opposed to needing to charge overnight will be much more appealing to drivers.

The two are working on a smart charger that integrates with the smart electrical meters GE makes. The idea is that the charger will allow the EV owner to charge their car when power costs are at their lowest. The two companies expect the chargers to ship in Q2 2010.
