Yesterday we reported on a Netbook News speed benchmark that showed the Ion 2 as significantly slower than the original Ion. This was shocking news to anyone expecting better performance from Ion 2. Now Netbooked reports that Nvidia has sent out a response to TG Daily.

“I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the benchmark that was performed at that show. I believe the units there were pre-release systems. We haven’t provided performance data yet for the public, we’ll have more details coming in early March.”

So. Either there was something wrong with the Ion 2 in the tested Acer Aspire One 532g, the proper drives weren't out yet, or Nvidia is trying frantically cover their asses. We'll have a better idea of what the truth is in March when the company releases its own benchmarks.
