EviGroup has an intriguing new tablet on the horizon. This device, named the Paddle (UMPC Portal), shares a similar design with the iPad. It seems to be a bit stockier, but the screen is slightly larger (10.1” vs. 9.7”). We don't have many hardware details yet, but the Paddle is expected to sell for 699 Euro in April or June.

There's been no word yet as to the details of a U.S. launch. The Paddle has a webcam and optional WiFi antennae. It has a 1.6 GHz Atom processor and will run on the Windows 7 HP platform. Battery life will probably not exceed four hours. Ouch.

For me, and I suspect many others, battery life that low is a deal-breaker. The iPad brags 10 hours of battery life, while the Adam has 16 hours. Even the $119 iLet tablet has a 16 hour battery life. The Paddle is going to have a tough time competing, even with a cool near-3D interface.
