If you have a smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.5, you might be hoping that your handset can be updated to Windows Phone 7. The bad news is that will not be happening. Apparently is has to do with the fact that the handsets lack the three buttons WinPo 7 needs.

WinMo 6.5 isn’t going the way of the dodo just yet though. Microsoft is rebranding the OS as Windows Phone Classic Edition. The Os will come in 3G versions and in versions lacking 3G for developing countries.

The lovely HTC HD2 running WinMo 6.5 cannot be upgraded to WinPo 7 thanks to a couple extra buttons it seems. The WP7 devices need three for the home, back, and search functions.
