Along with the Apple iPad you can already pre-order several iPad accessories as well in the Apple Store. One Apple iPad accessory is still missing though. Apple features in the iPad specification the iPad Camera Connection Kit, but is not offering it in the store yet.

The iPad Camera Connection Kit offers two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera. You can use your camera's USB cable or directly from an SD card. The Apple iPad supports standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW.
Since you only have the Apple Dock Port on the iPad you need such an adapter to connect a USB device. It is not clear yet if the iPad will support external USB drives, but if it can talk to cameras via USB it most likely does.
