Nintendo announced (pdf) today in Japan that they plan to release a 3D portable game console dubbed currently Nintendo 3DS.
The Nintendo 3DS has an auto-stereo display, which means you do not need glasses to see the 3D effect.

The new Nintendo 3DS will succeed the current Nintendo DS series and be backward compatible.

Nintendo says to release the Nintendo 3DS in the fiscal year ending March 2011. More details about the 3DS will be unveiled at the E3 2010 on June 15th.

This is a hot announcement that again puts Nintendo ahead of the competition in gaming. If the 3D effect on the 3DS is working well then we are officially "living in the future."
