Any GPS user will tell you that the GPS device is only as good as its maps. A bad set of maps will not overcome any cool features or accurate tracking that a GPS unit has. TomTom has announced a new lifetime map and traffic update service in the US.

The new service will ensure that het user has the most accurate and up to date maps at no additional cost. The updates will be for the useful life of the GPs device. I have no idea what the "useful life" is. Presumably, until the GPs device is replaced by a newer version.

TomTom is also offering lifetime traffic updates with real-time traffic to lure customers to its brand. The traffic updates will help users get around traffic. The lifetime updates and traffic feature is offered on the TomTom XL and the TomTom XXL starting at $199.95.
